Il Colombaio di Montebenichi is an ancient rental Tuscany villa originally built in the year 1232. It is only steps away from the quaint hamlet of Montebenichi on a hilltop at about 500 meters above sea level.
The rental Tuscany villa is surrounded by a beautiful and unspoiled natural environment, in the very heart of Tuscany, at the south-eastern border of the Chianti. It dominates a valley called Valdambra, which has preserved the integrity and beauty of its territory.
Montebenichi, dating from the early middle ages, has two castles, one of which is now a 4 star luxury hotel. In town there is also a fantastic family owned Tuscan restaurant that you can walk to from the villa as it is a short 300 meter walk with beautiful views!
The medieval village has an ancient history and it is set in a spiral shape going upwards. It currently is populated by barely 100 people. It is located halfway between Arezzo and Siena, one hour from Florence and 2 hours from Pisa. It is an excellent starting point for discovering the artistic, natural and food and wine wonders of this Tuscany.

From Montebenichi, the Chianti road winds around woods, olive groves and vineyards taking you to medieval villages, imposing castles, and wineries.
Only 40 minutes away from either of two world renown wine areas such as Montalcino (important for its Brunello) in the south west and Montepluciano (known for its Vino Nobile di Montepulciano) in the south east of Tuscany.
If instead you are more interested in cultural relaxing days, you may want to take only a 20 minute drive to Siena or 1 hour to Florence.
Slightly south of Montebenichi, you find the “Crete Senese”, an extraordinary and unique land known for its clay lomes (which give it its name), unique views and the thermal spa town of Rapolano, with its natural hot springs of sulphuric-calcium thermal waters that come out of the ground at 38°C.
If you like walking, Il Colombaio di Montebenichi is ideal for hiking, trekking, running, or just idle walking. There are many signalled hiking trails that cut across beautiful ilex woods reaching from Montebenichi to neighbourghing medieval castles such as Cennina or nearby medieval hamlets such as Duddova.
If you’d rather taste the local folklore and leisurely chose veggies at one of the daily local markets of Ambra (Tuesdays), Siena (Wednesdays)or Castelnuovo Berardenga (Thursdays) you can just take it easy and stroll along!

The kitchen of this rental Tuscany villa has a dishwasher, an oven and stove and it connects to the dining room and the living room with fireplace, with comfortable couches and a flat screen TV. There are two doors opening up from the kitchen and from the dining room to the outside terrace to allow for outdoor enjoyment such as barbecues or just simply admiring the landscape.
Additionally, the ground floor has an separate bedroom with a small kitchenette and large bathroom with a queen bed and one twin bed, providing togetherness and independence at the same time.
On the first floor, that can also be reached by and independent outside entrance, there are three bedrooms two of which with a queen size bed and one with 2 twin size beds, and two bathrooms, one with shower and one with a bathtub. A beautiful open family room with a sofa-bed and with a second fireplace connects all the rooms including a fully fitted gymnasium area.
