Sogna is an 11th century medieval hilltop village over the Val d’Ambra. Completely abandoned after World War II, this hamlet today has been carefully recovered keeping its original structure to become a unique reality of 15 Tuscany country apartments and farm houses.
“Sogna, instead, looks as if time rolled back, showing the village as it once was. No wires, no shiny bricks, no kitsch, no artificial landscaping. Here is the dignity of simplicity.”Frances Mayes Bringing Tuscany Home ©2004
Perched high atop a hillside, surrounded by terraces with over 700 olive trees, numerous fruit trees and ancient woodlands, Sogna reigns in its own aura. The stunning medieval village has been restored maintaining all of its original features: the parish church, dedicated to San Tommaso, and the central fountain are now surrounded by strawberries and fig trees. The original fortressed walls and cobbled lanes that lead through the village between the stone country homes have been exquisitely recovered.
Sogna offers the chance to relax, sunbathe, play a tennis game, or swim in the oasis shaped pool while enjoying breathtaking panoramic views. Shops, banks, and many excellent restaurants are within an easy ten minute drive connecting you to the outside world. Conveniently close to historic centers such as Florence, Pisa, Siena and Arezzo, Sogna is also removed from civilization.
This one bedroom apartment has been authentically restored to reveal its original chestnut beams, terra cotta tile ceilings and floors, and painted in luminous Tuscan yellows to give it warmth. Antique pieces of furniture have been juxtaposed with modern decoration pieces and paintings resulting in an inviting home to relax and dream.
The main living area has a corner table overlooking the private patio, and flowing into the living room. The one ample bedroom with a queen size bed and bathroom in suite also opens up into a private small balcony.
The kitchen is practical and conveniently supplied for your every need. The patio in front of the apartment is a private corner of green where Tuscany’s landscapes, smells and sounds reach unblemished.
