Podere Casalino is a Tuscan country house located only a few minutes away from the Fortezza (fortress) of Monteriggioni, in the heart of the Chianti Classico, specifically 2 kilometers (1.5 miles) from the provincial highway that connects Siena with Florence knows as Via Cassia.
Monteriggioni, 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) north of Siena, is a spectacularly intact medieval fortress built in 1203 as a bastion to defend Siena from Florence, converted today into a small circular hill town. It is definitely a site to see with its wall and impressive fourteen towers jutting from it, its cobbled square (piazza) with the typical old well in the centre, its Romanesque church and very tasty alternatives for food and wine in the excellent restaurants and bars nearby.
The farmhouse is surrounded by woods typical of these regions with oaks, poplars, ipex, junipers and many other deciduous trees creating the sounds of nature and a natural barrier towards surrounding civilization. This hilly fertile countryside is ideal for trekking, horseback riding, bicycle riding, or jumping in your car to discover the nearby fortress and wineries.
This large stone farmhouse has been restored maintaining its architectural features that give it a unique Tuscan character. The structural arches found in the open spaces once needed as stables, gated courtyards that in days past were patios for domestic animals, “pietra serena” (gray local basaltic stone) placed here and there to hold corners and walls, are testimony of an era that has left a legacy.
Podere Casalino is now the permanent home of a Sienese doctor and his family, warm and cordial, who will take very good care of you. They have restored the villa dividing it in three apartments, two of them available for rent. Attention to detail and care in every choice has been applied with undivided attention to all properties such as the one they chose to live in. Il Porcile was once the old pigsty, while, il Gatto, was the ground floor and old stable traditional of farmhouses in 19th century Tuscany.
The grounds, gardens, barbecue grill and the beautiful swimming pool set a little way below the house, with an infinity edge, seeming to run into the woods are all common grounds for your leisure.

Il Gatto, once the old stable of the Podere Casalino, is ample and gracious with it’s arches, stone walls, and terracotta floors. It has it’s own independent entrance from the farmhouse’s courtyard, and you can access its private patio and garden from the main room, albeit the fact that guests can also enjoy the common grounds, garden and pool.
The entrance hallway leads into the large living room with two wide ancient brick arches that span the room. There is a fully furnished kitchen with fridge, freeze, dishwasher and everything you will require. The dining room is between the kitchen and the living room which has a fireplace around which is set up the comfortable Tuscan furniture and the sofa bed.
There are two double bedrooms with queen size beds. At one end of the living room, behind the kitchen, the main bedroom has sitting room furniture and a full elegant travertine clad bathroom. This bedroom opens up to the backyard terrace fully furnished for outdoor living. At the other end of the living room is the second spacious bedroom also with its own bathroom.
